With effort, a simple sheet of paper can be transformed into an airplane. With effort, ideas and resources can be transformed into a Strategic Plan. But, creation of a plan is not enough; transforming an institution requires hard work, dedication and community support. “SOAR with Fairmont State.” You’re going to hear that message frequently because it is our motto. The acronym “SOAR” is based on our four core values – Scholarship, Opportunity, Achievement and Responsibility. It is these core values that power our transformation, so it is only fitting that they are the uniting theme of this year’s report. In these pages, we will highlight some of the key ways that our students, faculty, staff and supporters have helped us to “SOAR” through Year One of our Strategic Plan. The diversity of academic endeavors, personal and institutional growth, individual and group achievement and service to others reflect the rich and vibrant community of Fairmont State.
