My college credits are more than 20 years old, will they still transfer?
Yes, generally undergraduate credit hours do not have a time restriction for transferring. It is important for the college hours to be on a transcript from an accredited college or university.
How big are the classes?
The average class size is 22 students, and our student-to-faculty ratio of 17-to-1 allows the College to provide individual attention for every student.
How much out of class study and preparation time should I expect?
To best answer this question, think back to when you took traditional classes. The average student studies two hours for every class hour. Therefore, if you were registered for six hours, you would study 12 hours per week.
How many majors do you offer?
85 Baccalaureate, 50 Associate degrees. We also offer skill sets and 1 year certificates.
What are placement tests?
Students who have not taken the ACT/SAT, or students with low ACT/SAT subscores, may be required to take the COMPASS (placement test) to determine the appropriate placement in English and/or Math courses.
What are the requirements for acceptance into Fairmont State University?
You must have a high school GPA of 2.5; an ACT of 17 or SAT of 830; and complete 4 english, 3 lab sciences, 3 social sciences, and 3 math courses.
What are the requirements for acceptance into Pierpont Community & Technical College?
Provide one of the following: 1-Official High School transcript, 2-GED, or 3-Placement tests showing an ability to benefit.
Do you need my immunization records?
Yes, if you were born after January 1, 1957.
How do I visit campus?
Contact the Admissions Office at 1-800-641-5678, Ext 2, or 304-367-4892. You will have a personal appointment with an admissions counselor and a tour of our beautiful campus. Your visit can also be customized to include appointments with an academic representative, financial aid, or other administrative offices.
Is there an application fee?
We do not have an application fee for our genreal admissions application. However, some of our Health Career and Selective Program majors do have a $20 application fee!
Is there an application deadline?
No! We go on a rolling admissions process!
When is the best time to apply?
First-Time Freshmen must apply by December 15 to be considered for our Falcon Scholarship.

Do you need my FAFSA information?
Yes. In order to receive any type of Financial Assistance from Fairmont State - for grants, scholarships, or loans - we must have your FAFSA information on file.
How much does it cost to go to Fairmont State University?
In state tuition for 2006 - 2007 is $4,522 Out of state tuition for 2006 - 2007 is $9,456.
How much does it cost to go to Pierpont Community & Technical College?
In state tuition for 2006 - 2007 is $3,402. Out of state tuition for 2006 - 2007 is $7,584.
Do you offer scholarships?
Yes. Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis with a completed admissions file by Dec. 15th. You must be accepted to the college to compete for a scholarship. Funds are awarded based upon availabilty.
How much do textbooks cost?
The average cost for textbooks for incoming freshmen for the academic year is $600.00.
Where is the College located?
Fairmont State's main campus is located in Fairmont, WV. Classes are also taught in Clarksburg, Bridgeport, and other regional locations.
Do you offer Intercollegiate athletics?
Yes. We are a member of NCAA Division II and the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. We offer 15 men's and women's sports.
How many students attend Fairmont State?
As of Fall 2004 we have over 7,500 student enrolled.
Do I have to live on campus?
All freshmen and sophomore students under 21 are required to live on campus. Exceptions apply to married students.
How many residence halls are there?
There are various housing options. We have one traditional women's dorm, two traditional co-ed dorms, and apartments. Bryant Hall, completed in the fall of 2004, is a beautifully modern, suite-styled residence hall.
How much does it cost to stay in a Residence Hall?
Average room and board for 2006-2007 is $1,742 per semester.
Is there a deposit for the residence hall?
Yes. The deposit is $200 for the 2006-2007 academic year. Applicants for residence hall reservations must pay a deposit at the time the application is filed with Fairmont State.
Notice of cancellation of room reservations must be received by May 15th for the fall term and by December 15th for the spring term. A deposit is not required for the summer terms, however an application needs to be signed and a meal ticket purchased.
