Event Information
Join us for the 2nd Annual Making Connections 5k . With over 150 runners and walkers participating last year, we are hoping to break our record and raise even more money to support Veterans' Education and Scholarships. We have a challenging course to go along with a fun, festive atmosphere with great post-race refreshments.
All runners and walkers are encouraged to join us at the Feaster Center (Locust Avenue Campus) for our post-race concert featuring Larry Gatlin of the Gatlin Brothers as pay tribute to America's Veterans and raise money for Veterans' Education. Admission is free to all finishers with additional tickets available for purchase. Donations Welcome!
Schedule Of Events

All events will take place at Veterans' Square Plaza, 320 Adams Street in Downtown Fairmont.
5:00 pm - Registration and Packet Pick-Up
6:00 pm - Registration Closes
6:15 pm - Kids' K Race Begins
6:30 pm - 5k and 2 Mile Races Begin
7:00 pm - Post-Race Reception (Awards presented as athletes finish)
7:30 pm - Post Race Concert featuring Larry Gatlin (Feaser Center)
Course Description
5k Run / 2 Mile Walk:
The 5k Run course begins at Veterans’ Square (corner of Adams and Madison Streets) and travels along Adams Street across the Mid-City Bridge and onto Fairmont Avenue. At 3rd Street runners turn left, crossing the David Morgan Bridge. Just past the 1 mile mark, the course turns right at the Gateway Connector. Runners will proceed up-hill, following the new walking-path, until turning right at Pleasant Valley Road and looping back under the Connector at Satterfield Street. The course proceeds downhill on the bike-path, accross the Jefferson Street / Mollohan Bridge, and returning to the finish on Adams Street at Veterans' Square Plaza.
2 Mile Walk:
The 2 Mile Walk course will be the same as last year's event. It begins with the runners on Adams Street (at Veterans’ Square). After 1 block walkers turn left onto Jefferson Street across the Mollohan Bridge. At Merchant Street proceed up the Gateway Connector bike-path until the 1 mile mark. Near Pleasant Valley Street, walkers will turn-around, reversing thier course to the finish at Veterans' Square Plaza.
Kids' K:
Kids’ K participants will start at Veterans’ Square and run to the Court House, approximately 200 yards, then return to the finish. All runners will receive a “#1” race bib and commemorative finisher’s medallion. Registration is FREE! Race begins at 6:15 pm.
Awards
Attractive, commemorative awards will be presented to the top overall men’s and women’s finishers in the Making Connections 5k, as well as the top 3 finishers in each division. All participants pre-registered by March 15th are guaranteed a “Making Connections 5k” race shirt. All athletes are also entitled to unlimited post-race refreshments and receive free admission to the post-race concert, featuring Larry Gatlin.

Directions & Parking
FROM I-79:
Take Exit 136 (Downtown). At light, turn left and proceed downhill toward Fairmont. Proceed across the Jefferson Street / Mollohan Bridge and continue to Adams Street. Turn Right onto Adams Street (one way). The start will be 1 block ahead, at the corner of Adams and Madison Streets.
Park at the City Garage directly across from the Veterans’ Square Plaza, and adjacent to the Start and Finish Line.
Doreen Larson, Ph.D.
In a brand new event this year, all runners have the chance to “Beat the President.” Any runner who can finish ahead of Pierpont President, Dr. Doreen Larson, will take home a special gift donated by one of our sponsors. Just a warning, Doreen is an avid runner who is used to winning. So train hard – and catch her if you can!!!
