1. What is TEAS?
TEAS is short for “Test of Essential Academic Skills”. TEAS is a 4-part (paper-and-pencil or web-based) supervised assessment developed by Assessment Technologies Institute™ LLC that consists of subtests in Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English.

2. Why do I need to take the TEAS test?
Fairmont State University’s School of Nursing and Allied Health has made the TEAS test results part of the admission requirements for the Associate of Science in Nursing Program for all students applying for acceptance.

3. What testing areas are included in the TEAS test?
TEAS is a 4-part assessment developed by Assessment Technologies Institute™ LLC consisting of subtests in Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English with 170 total questions. The numbers of questions in each subtest area are as follows:
• Reading – 40 Questions
• Mathematics – 45 Questions
• Science – 30 Questions
• English and Language Usage – 55 Questions

4. How long does the test take?
The TEAS test is a timed test. The total testing time for all four test areas is 3 hours and 29 minutes. Most subtests are timed to average 75 seconds per item. The amount of time allotted for each subtest is as follows:
• Reading – 50 Minutes
• Mathematics – 56 Minutes
• Science – 38 Minutes
• English and Language Usage – 65 Minutes

5. How do I register for the TEAS test?
First, you need to register for the test date you want and pay for the TEAS online at Fairmont State’s “Online Registration and E-pay Links”. Click here to register for the TEAS test.  Secondly, you need to go to www.atitesting.com and register as a user on their site. You must bring your User Name and Password that you have chosen to be able to take the supervised, web-based exam.

6. How may times can I take the TEAS test?
You can take the TEAS test twice per CALENDAR year. 

7. How do I register to retake the TEAS test?
First, you need to register for the re-test date you want and pay for the TEAS test online at Fairmont State’s “Online Registration and E-pay Links”. Click Here to register for the TEAS test.  Secondly, you need to go to www.atitesting.com and make sure you have registered as a user on their site. You must bring your User Name and Password that you have chosen to be able to take the supervised, web-based exam.  PLEASE NOTE:  STARTING IN 2010, YOU MUST COMPLETE ALL SUBTESTS OF THE TEAS RETAKE.  YOU MAY NO LONGER ONLY COMPLETE THOSE SUBTESTS YOU ARE TRYING TO IMPROVE.

8. How much does the TEAS test cost and when do I have to pay the testing fee?
The TEAS test costs $40 and must be paid on-line when you register for your testing date.

9. Where is the TEAS testing for Fairmont State University conducted?
TEAS testing is conducted at Pierpont Community & Technical College's Center for Workforce Education located in downtown Fairmont at 320 Adams Street, Suite G01, Fairmont, WV 26554. The Center for Workforce Education is located on the ground floor of Veterans Square.  Detailed directions are available by going HERE.

10. Is there anything special I need to do or need to bring on the day of the test?
You should plan to arrive ½ hour prior to testing time to allow for check in. You need to go to www.atitesting.com and register as a user. You must bring your User Name and Password that you have chosen to be able to take this web-based exam. You must bring a picture ID, your social security number and two (2) #2 pencils.  CALCULATORS ARE NOT ALLOWED.  ALL CELL PHONES OR ANY OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICE WILL BE COLLECTED BEFORE THE TEST.  IT IS BEST IF YOU DO NOT BRING THESE WITH YOU OR, IF YOU NEED TO, THAT YOU LEAVE THESE DEVICES IN YOUR CAR.

11. How late can I wait to register to take the TEAS test?
You can register for one of the available test dates as long as there are seats avaliable for that test date. Be aware that there are a limited number of seats available on each test date, so it is important to pick a test date and register before all the available seats are taken.

12. I missed the test date I registered for. How I do get a refund?
If you do not show on the date of the exam you will forfeit your registration fee. Your registration date will not be rescheduled or refunded once we are 10 days away from the testing date. If you have spoken to me, Deb Woods, and I have confirmed that your request was received beyond the 10 day minimum, your refund will be processed as soon as possible.

13. How do I get my TEAS test results?
Your individual student report is available immediately after you complete your test via the internet through Assessment Technologies Institute™ LLC at www.atitesting.com.

15. Can I re-test if I want to improve my score?
Yes, you can re-test once per CALENDAR year. HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE, STARTING IN 2010, YOU MUST COMPLETE ALL SUBTESTS OF THE TEAS RETAKE.  YOU MAY NO LONGER ONLY COMPLETE THOSE SUBTESTS YOU ARE TRYING TO IMPROVE.

16. How much does it cost to re-test?
Re-test costs are the same as the initial test cost, $40.

17. Are test preparation materials available?
Test preparation materials, including study guides and practice tests, are available to be purchased from Assessment Technologies Institute™ LLC. You can find out more by visiting their web address www.atitesting.com.

18. What if I live outside of the State or regional area and cannot make it to one of the TEAS test dates identified?
Students can take the TEAS test at another location and have their scores sent to our school by contacting an alternative TEAS testing location. Keep in mind not every school that administers the TEAS test will test an individual applying for another school. ATI does not have a list that can be searched online but the student can call 800-667-7531 for help locating a testing site closer to their home. They then send their scores to our school by going to atitesting.com's online store and purchasing the "TEAS Results Fee". You should be sure to select our Institution "Fairmont State University TEAS." The cost varies for the TEAS test itself but the cost to send their transcript to our school is currently $20

19. What if I am a non-citizen and do not have a social security number?
You need to contact the TEAS test administrator, Deborah Woods, at (304) 367-4920 or by email Deborah.Woods@pierpont.edu at least one month prior to the date on which you would like to test.

20. What if I have taken the TEAS Test at another testing location and want my results to be forwarded to Fairmont State University?
You will need to go to www.atitesting.com and log in with your user information. Then you will need to go to the "Online Store" and purchase the "TEAS Results Fee". You will need to select "Fairmont State University TEAS" as the recipient and pay the $20 fee to ATI. The results will be emailed to our school.

21. Who do I contact if I have other questions about the administration of the TEAS test?

Information about the TEAS test itself can be found from Assessment Technologies Institute™ LLC. by visiting their web address www.atitesting.com. Questions about Fairmont State’s use of the TEAS test should be directed to Dr. Sharon Boni at (304) 367-4767 or by email Sharon.Boni@fairmontstate.edu. Questions about nursing admission policies or requirements, including acceptable test scores, should be directed to the Nursing Department at 304.367.4133.
