Lovett Named Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs

Monday, August 30, 2010 - Thursday, September 30, 2010

Pierpont Community & Technical College President Doreen Larson has named Professor Leslie Lovett as Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs. Lovett will begin her new duties on September 1, 2010.

"I am thrilled that Leslie has accepted this challenge," said Larson. "I have confidence in her abilities to lead and shape Pierpont academic affairs. She has excellent organizational abilities, a clear grasp of the importance of a focus on student retention and success, and as a founding member of the Pierpont faculty, she has the respect of her peers. She has served on their behalf on both the Pierpont and Fairmont State Boards of Governors and at the state level as a member of the West Virginia Advisory Council of Faculty."

Larson had opened the search for the position to all Pierpont faculty members and she received a number of highly qualified applications.

"The talent pool among our faculty is deep and diverse," said Larson. "I have been very impressed with the caliber of our faculty members."

Lovett earned a B.S. degree in medical technology at Arizona State University and an M.S. in medical technology at SUNY Buffalo. She was an instructor in the chemistry department at WVU before coming to Fairmont State as an assistant professor in 1990. When the community college formed its own separate academic structure, she was part of the group that established the new faculty. She currently serves as a Clinical Education Coordinator and Program Coordinator in Pierpont's School of Health Careers.

"It's an honor to be selected for this academic leadership position," said Lovett. "I am excited to take on new responsibilities and have the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Larson, faculty, staff, and our local communities. Together we can work to provide additional access to higher education, make a difference in the lives of the students we touch, and contribute to their success."

Committed to professional service, Lovett volunteers as a paper reviewer and site visitor for the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science and is the membership chair for the West Virginia Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.

She resides in Morgantown with her husband Raymond and they have an adult son and daughter.
