The courses offered through the Academic Development Center are designed to help students develop the academic skills and behaviors necessary for college success. Although any course designated as "developmental skills" does not count for college credit toward graduation, the courses do count toward a student's full-time status.
Approximately half of all Pierpont Community & Technical College and Fairmont State University students have taken at least one class offered through the Academic Development Center. It is important that students complete any required Developmental Skills courses within their first 32 credit hours, and ideally before the end of their first year of college.
Students are also strongly encouraged to enroll in their subsequent college credit English and Math courses immediately upon successful completion of the Developmental Skills courses. Those college credit English and Math courses make up the required credit hours in all students' General Education requirements and should be completed as soon as possible.
Please feel free to speak with any faculty from the Academic Development Center if you have any questions.

All placement tests are administered by an Academic Studies faculty, Mrs. Nancy Parks, 207b Jaynes Hall.
All developmental skills courses are "CREDIT" or "NO CREDIT" courses; they do not count toward graduation credits, but they do count toward a student’s full-time status for all other institutional purposes, including financial aid.
In addition to providing developmental skills courses, the Academic Development Center also offers all students a bright, comfortable, inviting area in which they may receive tutoring, encouragement, and academic support from peers, faculty, and support staff. The lab has personal computers for algebra tutoring and general academic work. The ADC also provides a conferencing/study area. Please explore our site to learn more about how the Academic Development Center can enhance your chances for academic success.
