What is “Mechatronics”?
Mechatronics is the study of mechanics, electronics, and system control technologies with the goal of developing the knowledge and skills required to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electro-mechanical systems in an industrial environment.
What kind of classes will students take?
In addition to the required general education classes, students will take more than a dozen hands-on technical courses, including electricity and electronics, mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics, instrumentation, and programmable logic controllers.
What kind of jobs will it lead to?
A troubleshooting technician (Mechatronics graduate) can find work anywhere there is machinery that needs to be installed, maintained, or repaired. This might include local companies such as: Swanson Industries, WVU Hospitals, Inc., Mon Power / First Energy, Novelis, Corhart Refractories Company, Armstrong Wood Products, Inc., Weyerhaeuser, Mylan Pharmaceuticals, and Chemtura Corporation.
What could graduates expect to earn?
Local anticipated wages for entry-level graduates are estimated to range from $30,000 to $50,000 annually, with earning potential rising with additional experience.
