Frequently Asked Questions concerning the TEAS pre-nursing test 

1. ​What is TEAS?

TEAS is short for “Test of Essential Academic Skills.” TEAS is a 4-part on-line assessment developed by 

Assessment Technologies Institute™ LLC that consists of sub-tests in Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English. 

​2. Why do I need to take the TEAS test?

Pierpont Community & Technical College has made the TEAS test results part of the admission requirements entry into RN/LPN programs. 

3. What testing areas are included in the TEAS test?

TEAS is a 4-part assessment developed by Assessment Technologies Institute™ LLC consisting of sub-tests in Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English with 170 total questions. The numbers of questions in each sub-test area are as follows: • Reading –48 Questions • Mathematics – 34 Questions • Science – 54 Questions • English and Language Usage – 34 Questions 

4. How long does the test take?

The TEAS test is a timed test. The total testing time for all four test areas is 3 hours and 29 minutes. Most sub-tests are timed to average 75 seconds per item. The amount of time allotted for each sub-test is as follows: • Reading – 58 Minutes • Mathematics – 51 Minutes • Science – 66 Minutes • English and Language Usage – 34 Minutes 

5. How do I register for the TEAS test?

Pierpont’s Testing Center is changing the way to register for TEAS registration.  As of March 20, 2020, TEAS registration will no longer be completed through www.pierpont.edu/ce.  TEAS test registration for April 2020 and all future dates will be completed through www.atitesting.com

How do I register for the ATI TEAS exam? 

Step 1: Visit www.atitesting.com/teas-prep

Step 2: Scroll to the registration section of the page, and click “Start Registration”

Step 3: If you have an existing ATI account, select “Sign In”. If you need to create one, select “Create an Account”.

*Note: It is important to remember your ATI login. You will need this on exam day. 

Step 4: Follow the prompts to complete your registration. 

*Note on ATI TEAS Transcripts: ATI offers reporting of TEAS test results to schools as a convenience to nursing school applicants. However, it is solely your responsibility to ensure that each of your school applications, as well as your TEAS test results, is complete, properly submitted, and on file with each such school. Please note that if you are taking the TEAS exam at a school testing facility, your test results will automatically be forwarded to that school, in addition to any other school(s) that you have purchased to receive your results

Step 5: Once you have successfully registered, you will receive a confirmation email from ATI Nursing Education. Be sure to reference this prior to your exam.

If you do not bring your ATI username/password you may delay the testing process. If you have issues please see me before the exam time. 

·        Applicants must bring a valid ID (Preferably a current Driver’s License)

·        Bring 2 or more #2 pencils

·        NO ADMITTANCE WITHOUT PROPER ID

·        Schedule 4 hours to take the test

·        Scratch paper will be provided by the testing center

·        Do not bring calculators – they are built into the test

 

Please note: By clicking the “Register” button you agree to the test on the selected date. You understand that you are responsible for repaying and rescheduling for a new test if you are unable to attend your scheduled date. 

 

6. How often can I take the TEAS test?

You may take the TEAS test twice in any calendar year. You register for the TEAS test you are taking the second time in a calendar year the same as you do for the first time.  

7. How much does the TEAS test cost and when do I have to pay the testing fee?

The TEAS test costs $85 and must be paid on-line when you register for your testing date. 

8. Where is the TEAS testing conducted?

TEAS testing is conducted at Pierpont Community & Technical College’s High Stakes Testing Center located at 500 Galliher Drive, Fairmont WV 26554 at the Advanced Technology Center. 

9. Is there anything special I need to do or need to bring on the day of the test?

You should plan to arrive ½ hour prior to testing time to allow for check in. You must bring a current picture ID, and two (2) #2 pencils.  

10. How late can I wait to register to take the TEAS test?

You can register for one of the available test dates as long as there are seats available. Be aware that there are a limited number of seats available on each test date, so it is important to pick a test date and register before all the available seats are taken.  

11. How do I get my TEAS test results?

Your individual student report is available immediately after you submit your exam. However, the test proctor cannot print a copy for you. If you want a copy of your score, you can download from another computer by logging back into Assessment Technologies Institute™ LLC at www.atitesting.com and going to My Results. 

​12. Can I re-test if I want to improve my score?

Yes, you can take the TEAS test twice in a calendar year. You must complete all subtest areas each time. 

13. How do I arrange to re-test?

 You register to retake the test by selecting the date you want and paying for the TEAS test online as described in #5 above.  

14. How much does it cost to re-test?

 Re-test costs are the same as the initial test costs, $85. 

15. Are test preparation materials available?

 Test preparation materials, including study guides and practice tests, are available to be purchased from Assessment Technologies Institute™ LLC. You can find out more by visiting their web address www.atitesting.com. Free tutoring to all FSU/Pierpont students is available on the second floor of the library. This is not specific to just TEAS tutoring but does include this service for those who request it. The tutoring schedule can be accessed at www.pierpont.edu/tutoring. They have copies of TEAS practice books. The library also has copies of the TEAS practice books available for checkout. Linda King, Associate Professor, is the director of the tutoring center. 16. What if I live outside of the State or regional area and cannot make it to one of the TEAS test dates identified?

You need to contact the TEAS test administrator, Lauren Huffman, at (304) 534-7882 or by email LHUFFMAN8@pierpont.edu to determine if special testing arrangements can be made. Realize that special arrangements will only be made due to extraordinary circumstances. Such requests must be made no later than one month prior to the last available test date.  

17. What if I am a non-citizen and do not have a social security number?

You need to contact the TEAS test administrator, Lauren Huffman, at (304) 534-7882 or by email LHUFFMAN8@pierpont.edu at least one month prior to the date on which you would like to test.
