Surgical Technology

The Surgical Technology program prepares students to become skilled surgical technologists through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experience. Coursework includes anatomy, microbiology, surgical procedures, sterilization techniques, and patient care.
Students develop the skills needed to prepare the operating room, manage surgical instruments, support surgical teams and ensure safe, efficient procedures.
Graduates of the Health Science: Surgical Technology A.A.S. degree program are prepared for employment in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings.
Admissions Process:
The Surgical Technology application is currently open and will close on May 15, 2026, or once all seats are filled in this limited space cohort.

2. Submit transcripts:
For your application to be considered complete and to be scheduled for an interview, transcripts must be received. Official high school transcripts and any college transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution to Pierpont Community & Technical College. Please note that transcripts submitted directly by applicants (including forwarded or uploaded attachments) are considered unofficial and will not be accepted to complete an application file.
High school seniors can submit their partial high school transcripts.

Applicants with complete applications will be invited to interview. Interviews will take place between May 18th and May 28th, 2026, at Pierpont Community and Technical College, Advanced Technology Center, 500 Galliher Drive, Fairmont, WV 26554, Room 117. Students officially admitted into the program must complete a background check, a drug screening and submit vaccination records.

textbooks and certification exam vouchers are included in your tuition costs
Upon completion of the training, students will receive a certificate of completion and may be eligible to sit for the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) certification exam
Training Cost: $10,000
Financial Aid is available for qualified applicants.

- Class schedule: 8:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m., Monday–Thursday (subject to change). Clinical schedule: typically, 6:10 a.m.–2:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, or as assigned by clinical partners. The program follows the Pierpont academic calendar for holidays; clinical make‑up time may be required.
