Deshon Porter, a graduate of the Board of Governors program, made a promise that he would finish college after his late wife passed in August of 2016.
Fighting depression, Porter pushed through to keep his promise to his late wife and prove to his mother he could finish college. He was able to use his Sophia Learning Pathways Credits and credits earned at other schools to help him complete the program.
“As I walked across the graduation stage, I told my late wife that I did it and I love her. Promise made, promise kept,” he shared.
Porter lives in Houston, TX, and traveled to West Virginia to walk across the stage at graduation. He plans to continue his education to obtain a bachelor’s degree, continuing his promise to his late wife. Porter has a podcast on YouTube called “the big d zone.”
