FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 29, 2026

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Pierpont Community & Technical College is now accepting registrations for its 2026 SparkForce Summer Camps, offering students ages 12–17 hands-on opportunities to explore in-demand careers in advanced manufacturing, robotics and skilled trades.

Hosted through Pierpont’s Career and Corporate Training office in partnership with SparkForce, the camps are designed to introduce middle and high school students to modern manufacturing through interactive, project-based learning. Participants gain experience working with industry-relevant tools and technologies, while developing skills in problem-solving, teamwork and innovation.

“We are excited to once again offer SparkForce Summer Camps as a way to inspire the next generation of innovators and workforce leaders,” said Dr. Joni Gray, Director of Career and Corporate Training. “These camps give students the opportunity to experience real-world applications of technology and manufacturing in a setting that is both educational and engaging.”

The summer camp offerings include:

  • Smart Factory Mechatronics Camp (June 22–26 and July 27–31): Students work with industrial equipment to program automated systems and explore how robotics, sensors and controls are used in today’s advanced manufacturing environments.
  • Escape the Code: VR Escape Room Design Camp (June 22–24): Campers design and build their own virtual reality escape rooms while learning how coding and automation power both digital environments and real-world manufacturing systems.
  • Tools of the Trades Camp (July 13–16): In partnership with Snap-on, students learn proper tool usage, measurement techniques and safety practices while working with industry-standard equipment.
  • ArcReady: Virtual Reality Welding Camp (Aug. 3–6): Participants use immersive virtual reality technology to learn welding fundamentals, including equipment setup, positioning and safety, with the opportunity to earn NC3 Welding Safety certification.

David Beighley, Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, emphasized the role of early exposure in building workforce pathways.

“Experiences like this help students understand how their education connects to real opportunities,” Beighley said. “There is a strong demand for skilled workers across our region, and programs like SparkForce help build that pipeline while giving students a practical introduction to these careers.”

Many of the camps are being taught by Caleb Davis, Career and Corporate Training Specialist.

“Our goal is to make learning hands-on and engaging,” Davis said. “Students will work directly with tools, technology and real-world applications so they can see themselves in these careers.”

New this year, Pierpont is also introducing a series of continuing education camps designed specifically for K–12 educators. These sessions provide hands-on training, industry-recognized certifications and classroom-ready curriculum aligned with technical education pathways.

The educator offerings include:

  • Introduction to Mechatronics (June 10–12): This certification-focused camp introduces educators to foundational concepts in mechanical, electrical and control systems. Participants gain hands-on experience with pneumatics, sensors, actuators and automation technologies while building practical STEM applications they can bring back to the classroom. The camp is offered at no cost to educators.
  • Hand Tool Safety/Identification and Precision Measurement (Aug. 3–6): Developed in partnership with Snap-on, Starrett and the National Coalition of Certification Centers, this camp provides training in tool identification, safe usage and precision measurement techniques used in manufacturing, aviation and engineering fields. Participants gain industry-aligned skills and certifications to support student learning and career readiness.

All camps will be held at the Advanced Technology Center on Pierpont’s campus, located at 500 Galliher Drive in Fairmont. Lunch will be provided for participants.

Registration is now open, and space is limited. For more information, including camp fees, schedules and registration details, visit www.pierpont.edu/career-corporate-training/sparkforce-summer-camps/.
