FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 10, 2026

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Pierpont Foundation will host its annual Day of Giving on April 1, 2026, inviting alumni, employees, students, community and industry partners to join together in celebration and support of Pierpont Community & Technical College. This year’s theme, “Pierpont Proud: Celebrating Our Story,” honors the achievements and shared pride that continue to define Pierpont’s growing impact across Pierpont’s service region.

This year’s Day of Giving places special emphasis on the expansion of the Pierpont Pride Pantry, which provides free, confidential access to food, personal care items and other essential supplies for students. With pantry locations growing across the Pierpont’s campuses, the Foundation is working to ensure that all students have access to the basic resources they need to succeed inside and outside the classroom.

Dr. Michael Waide, Interim President of Pierpont Community & Technical College, emphasized both the importance of the pantry and the momentum Pierpont has built over the past year. “The Pride Pantry represents exactly where we are as a college — moving forward with purpose and creating the kind of support systems that help our students thrive,” Waide said. “Momentum is not just about growth; it’s about strengthening the foundation our students stand on. Ensuring they have access to essential resources is one of the most impactful ways we can help them succeed, and I’m proud to support this effort through a matching gift.”

Day of Giving also highlights the growing enthusiasm and engagement throughout the Pierpont community. With increased alumni involvement, strengthened departmental partnerships and expanded program offerings, the college has seen renewed energy around giving and participation. This year’s goal of $65,000 reflects both the progress made and the aspirations ahead, as Pierpont continues to elevate student support, expand access, and build on the momentum that has carried the institution forward.

Kathy Hypes, Director of the Pierpont Foundation, noted that the Day of Giving showcases the impact of individual stories and collective action. “This day is about celebrating the people who make Pierpont what it is,” Hypes said. “Every gift — whether it supports a scholarship, an academic program or a student in need — represents someone who believes in our mission. That shared commitment is what drives our momentum and strengthens the future of Pierpont.”

Several matching opportunities will once again inspire generosity throughout the event. Dr. Darin Walker and Jennifer Walker will offer a five‑to‑one match supporting the Hannah Walker Scholarship Fund for PRIDE Academy, up to $1,000. Pierpont alumna Nancy Parks will provide a dollar‑for‑dollar match for Board of Governors AAS scholarships. Additional leadership challenges will support unrestricted giving through the President’s Fund and the Pierpont Fund.

Early giving opens the week before, encouraging supporters to participate, share their pride and help build excitement leading into April 1.

Natalie Tennant, chair of the Pierpont Foundation Board, shared the importance of broad participation in reaching this year’s goal. “Every dollar counts and no donation is too small to make a difference,” Tennant said. “When we come together, we support the visionaries, the innovators, and the trailblazers who will shape our communities for years to come.”
