Fairmont, W.Va. – The Pierpont Foundation held its second annual Day of Giving on March 14 to benefit the collective needs of Pierpont Community & Technical College. The Foundation set a goal of $50,000 to celebrate its 50-year anniversary; That goal was surpassed and climbing.
“In many ways, we are a new, stand-alone institution, but Pierpont has a 50-year legacy of providing quality and affordable education that works in north central West Virginia,” said Dr. Milan Hayward, president of Pierpont.
During the day, Pierpont held a ceremony to commemorate the event, including check signings and speeches Dr. Hayward and Foundation Director Kathy Hypes.
“This day wouldn’t have been a success without the support of the friends and family of Pierpont,” said Hypes. “To see the level of growth our Foundation has made over the last 12 months has been inspiring.”
Donors chose from various support areas, including student scholarships and support, student hardships, and program-specific funds. This year, the Pierpont Rapid Intellectual Disabilities Education (PRIDE) Academy led the way with nearly 40 individual donors. The Foundation more than doubled its total of funds and had five times the donors from last year, showing the growth of both the college and its Foundation.
“We are so thankful for the level of support for our college,” said Hayward. “We have been working tirelessly to put the ‘community’ back in community college, and today, the community affirmed their support for our mission.”
Donations to the Pierpont Foundation for the Day of Giving will remain open through March 19. You can make gifts by visiting giving.pierpont.edu or mailing a check directly to the Foundation at 500 Galliher Dr., Fairmont, WV 26554.
