Courses for Pierpont Community & Technical College’s Surgical Technology Career and Corporate Training program will be held at the Advanced Technology Center in Fairmont.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 23, 2026

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Pierpont Community & Technical College is now accepting applications for its Surgical Technology program within Career and Corporate Training. Applications are open through May 15 or until all available seats are filled for the first cohort.

Designed to prepare students for entry-level roles in the operating room, the Surgical Technology program combines classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory training and supervised clinical experience. Graduates are prepared to enter the healthcare workforce as members of surgical teams in hospitals and outpatient surgical settings.

“Surgical technology is a fast-paced, hands-on career where precision and teamwork truly matter,” said Ashley Howard, Professor and Program Coordinator for Surgical Technology, Sterile Processing at Pierpont. “This program gives students the practical training they need to succeed in the operating room while also earning college credit that can move them forward academically.”

In addition to workforce preparation, the program provides an academic pathway for students who wish to continue their education. Upon successful completion, students will earn a Certificate of Completion from Career and Corporate Training and receive credit toward an Associate of Applied Science degree.

“This program reflects Pierpont’s deliberate approach to aligning workforce education with academic credentials,” said David Beighley, interim provost at Pierpont Community & Technical College. “By structuring clear pathways from career training to college credit, we are expanding access while maintaining academic integrity and responsiveness to regional workforce needs.”

The program is delivered in a cohort format with limited enrollment. Applicants must complete the Surgical Technology application and submit official transcripts for consideration. Qualified applicants will be invited to interview.

The Surgical Technology program is housed at Pierpont’s Advanced Technology Center in Fairmont and begins later this summer. For additional details or to apply, visit www.pierpont.edu or contact Ashley Howard at ahoward3@pierpont.edu.
