FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Pierpont Community & Technical College has taken an important step in its ongoing commitment to student, employee, and community wellness through a donation of naloxone products from the Marion County Quick Response Team (QRT). The donation includes 14 Narcan nasal spray kits and four ONEbox emergency opioid overdose reversal kits.

Pierpont Interim President Dr. Michael Waide said the partnership reflects the College’s dedication to creating a safe, supportive learning environment.

“At Pierpont, our responsibility to our students extends beyond the classroom,” Waide said. “We are dedicated to providing a safe, supportive environment where every individual can thrive. By integrating these lifesaving resources into our campus safety infrastructure, we are taking a proactive stance in protecting our community. This partnership with the Marion County QRT is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together to prioritize health and safety.”

The naloxone kits will be distributed across all four of Pierpont’s campus locations, expanding access to emergency overdose response tools.

Malissa White, peer recovery coach for the Marion County QRT, emphasized the lifesaving impact of naloxone access.

“You cannot choose recovery if you aren’t here to make the choice,” White said. “We distribute naloxone because we believe in second chances, and saving a life today is the only way to make recovery possible tomorrow.”

The Marion County QRT, which operates through the Marion County Health Department, provides naloxone training, distribution, and immediate outreach following nonfatal overdoses, helping connect individuals with resources and treatment options.

Naloxone (Narcan) is a safe, non-addictive medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. It does not cause harm if administered to someone who is not experiencing an overdose, making it an essential component of modern first-aid resources.
